The church has a strong musical tradition and has
never been without a choir. From the 1920's onwards, many oratorios
were performed with nationally reputed singers and organists under the
direction of various dedicated and long serving musical directors. The
choir is still around 20 strong and usually sings at morning
services. We perform a wide variety of music, mainly at the Christmas
and Easter festivals. For major works, other members of the
congregation and singers from other choirs support us. The repertoire ranges from Messiah
and the Faure Requiem, through traditional Easter works such as The
Crucifixion and Olivet to Calvary, to modern works by American and
English composers. The latest addition to the repertoire is a
Christmas cantata; 'Christ is Born', composed by Jonathan Willcocks,
(son of David Willcocks), a challenging, but beautiful and rewarding
work.
We meet for rehearsals every Friday evening at
7.30 pm.

A Makin electronic organ was installed in 2005 as part of the refurbishment of the church.
The 1908 Norman & Beard organ was removed in December 2004 and sold to the Church of St Rocco in Matera,
Southern Italy.
In addition to the choirs there is a lively music
group which provides accompaniment for many of the modern hymns and
songs which form a regular part of our worship. They often participate
during the morning service. They also usually lead the worship at the
Circuit Praise evenings in different chapels around the circuit on
the 20th of each month.

The church is very fortunate in having its own orchestra. Its
members are all accomplished amateur musicians in their own right who
get together to provide music at special services and at concerts.
It is their aim always to enjoy music making, for
it is only through their enjoyment that we make the most of our
talents in the service and to the glory of God.

The Young People's Choir has been going since 1974.
It caters for children from 7 years and the music performed ranges
from the sacred to the secular. Three concerts are held each year, one
at Easter, one at Christmas and one in the summer, when musicals and
some drama are performed. The choir also participates in special
services held throughout the church calendar.
Rehearsals are held on Friday evenings from 6 to
7 pm and all children are welcome including those from outside the
Church.

The Empingham Mission Band is a brass band that
began in 1975 at Empingham Methodist Chapel, but now practices in Stamford.
We meet weekly on Thursdays from 7 pm to 8 pm. The band plays
a range of music and gives concerts around the area throughout the
year as well as leading worship on various occasions. Young musicians
are often "brought on" through playing in the band. Our 20 or so
members range in age and ability, but with a common desire to enjoy
worshipping God through our music.
