About Us & The Diversity Of Our Witness

Like all churches we have a congregation with rich, colourful and warm personalities; we are a group of very different people with varying needs and expectations. Our church therefore tries to meet those requirements, no matter how different we all are. This section will give some background to the range of our witness, both locally and to the wider world.

In recent years, the church has been running Alpha courses. They have proved to be very valuable in explaining the Christian faith to enquirers; they also serve to reinforce our own faith. We are part of "Churches Together" in Stamford and joint publicity has helped to increase awareness of the courses. We have also been running the 34 week "Disciple" course of Bible study.

Enjoying the food and atmosphere of the Millennium Meal Lay Witness weekends have also proved to be very good in developing the church family. Other evangelistic events are held from time to time, but simply bringing folk together and making them welcome is still an effective form of witness. This can be done at services, housegroups, in "The Well" Fair trade & coffee shop or at one of the many church activities.

We have people who have become directly involved in Christian work overseas, others who are keen to support the under privileged nearer to home. We have a continuing project involving the collection of furniture and supplies for a church community in Croatia. Special fund raising events, which are often enjoyable sociable occasions, are held from time to time to publicise and raise funds for worthy organisations. These have included; a car treasure hunt, a fashion show of fairly traded third world clothing, a meal for youth work, a concert for Action Research, and an evening featuring the Karibuni Trust which helps street children in Nairobi. Within the town of Stamford, we have members who have been involved in founding and running our local Christian bookshop, the Good News Vans Christian library service, and SHYP Trust, which has built a local house for homeless teenagers. Several of our members are also involved in visiting & helping prisoners in nearby prisons and patients in the local hospital.

We support the Fair Trade movement and sell fair trade goods and refreshments in our coffee shop "The Well"

Being part of the Church family can be fun. People get to know each other well through joining the various groups within the church. During the year we have a number of social functions, mostly involving the eating of very good food! There are barbecues, barn dances, concerts, visiting theatre groups, quizzes and many more. We even have our own table tennis, carpet bowls & games club on Wednesday evenings.

2001 Flower Festival, Through All the Changing Scenes of Life - The Bride The appreciation of flowers is very much a part of life at Barn Hill; there is always an arrangement in the church. At Easter, Harvest, and Christmas, the dedicated team of arrangers beautifully decorates the church and in July each year we hold a flower festival to coincide with Stamford Festival week. We always welcome new flower arrangers to help with these events. (Contact Chris Adams. 01778 346363)

Within the area surrounding Stamford there are a wealth of beautiful walks through the rolling countryside of rural England and Ian Husbands (01780 753968) organises one on a Saturday from time to time. We meet at a local pub for lunch first, then walk for about 2-3 hours. Nothing strenuous, but a steady exercise.

We are fortunate in having fairly extensive halls and rooms, which are used, not only by our own organisations, but also by the many groups within the town of Stamford. Enquiries about hall lettings should be directed to Laura & Malcolm Main (telephone 01780 720976).
